Mobilizing climate finance for the good of earth
As UN International Mother Earth Day 2025 rolls around, it can feel like we’re standing still in the face of mounting climate challenges. With over one-third of the world’s soil degraded, threatening food security and fragile ecosystems, the urgency is clear. And in Southeast Asia, where communities are already on the frontlines of climate change, the need for bold, sustained action is greater than ever.
Yet today, we also take a moment to recognize the wins — the on-the-ground climate enterprises, and the local innovations making real impact. At Nexus for Development, we celebrate this progress while doubling down on our goal: to mobilize more funding for the climate projects that are creating a sustainable future for both people and planet. And urging more businesses to consider how they can fund climate initiatives.
Big on Impact
Since 2009, through innovative financing and strategic support, we have partnered with climate-smart enterprises to deliver powerful, lasting changes:
- Enabled 42 sustainable projects
- Improved the lives of 9 million people
- Delivered 12.5 million m³ of clean water
- Avoided 5 million tons of harmful CO₂ emissions
- Generated 198 million kWh of clean energy
Climate finance for innovative partners
Our work with local enterprises shows empower communities, and accelerates climate action:
- HUSK – Transforms rice husks into clean electricity and biochar fertilizers. We supported HUSK in securing a $250,000 loan through the Pioneer Facility to scale regenerative agriculture and off-grid power in Southeast Asia.
- NBP – Converts animal waste into biogas for rural households, reducing emissions and producing organic fertilizer. Nexus supports NBP through Gold Standard certification and connects them with international carbon buyers.
- AgCoTech – Cuts methane emissions while boosting livestock productivity. Our carbon experts are exploring ways to support small-scale farmers in Laos with AgCoTech.
- Agrosolar – Distributes sustainable and affordable solar-powered irrigation pumps helping farmers to replace their diesel pumps, save up to USD $45 per month. Nexus raised $50,000 through KIVA loan to help finance the growing demand of their solar-powered irrigation systems for farmers in Myanmar.
Looking ahead: scaling climate solutions
Our goal is to accelerate carbon and impact finance that empowers sustainable, people-first solutions. We are especially committed to supporting women-led enterprises and community-driven projects through impact investing and carbon finance.
In step with Global Goals
This Mother Earth Day is a call to action: we must scale sustainable agriculture to safeguard ecosystems and secure a livable future for all.
