When Nexus member TerraClear needed some new wheels to help distribute their water purifiers to remote communities in Laos, the crowdfunding community rallied behind it. Over 700 individual Kiva lenders pledged $24,000 to purchase a new delivery truck.
“Without larger vehicles, the expense involved in coming back to the warehouse for more inventory mid-week would require us to increase the cost of the product,” says Matt Nieswender, TerraClear’s Deputy Director. “This truck will save us around 1,000,000 Kip per week and will help us keep the product very affordable for those living in even the most remote villages.”
The campaign marks TerraClear’s second crowdfunding triumph and they have clearly connected with socially conscious funders. Having already reached 30,000 local families, TerraClear is well down the road to meeting its goal of distributing 100,000 ceramic water purifiers by 2019.
