Laura Alsenas appointed Executive Director

Phnom Penh, November 26, 2021 – The Nexus for Development Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Laura Alsenas as the organization’s next Executive Director, effective December 10th.

As Nexus’ current Head of Funds, Laura has been managing Nexus’ portfolio of impact investment vehicles. She brings over 15 years of experience in providing access to finance for underserved SMEs as well as skills in strategic planning, financial management, and team leadership from her previous positions in mission-driven lending organizations in the U.S. and internationally.

Laura is excited to step into the new role:

“Nexus has begun to sharpen its strategic focus and chart its path forward. We are refining our business models within both impact investing and carbon credits, investing in staff, and inviting additional partners and investors to support our vision. I look forward to continuing to guide those pieces into place and for Nexus to deepen its support for the social enterprises that improve lives and benefit the environment.”

For the Board, Chair Jeffrey Lamb notes that “Laura brings a career-long commitment to harnessing finance to promote good development. She understands the carbon market and impact investment landscape of Southeast Asia. The combination of competence, worldview, leadership experience and the strong support of Nexus colleagues made her the unanimous choice of the recruitment committee.”

Laura succeeds Clarisse Kehler Siebert, who returns to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency where she works with international environmental negotiations. “This is a vital time for the voluntary carbon market, for energy transitions in Southeast Asia, for social enterprises and innovative finance to demonstrate their place among imperative global development and climate solutions,” reflects Clarisse. “Nexus’ ‘nexus‘ couldn’t be more seminal, the ride ahead more exciting, and I look forward to following Laura and the team on the journey ahead,” says Clarisse, who will also move to an advisory role with Nexus.
